About the Opportunity

We are looking for a full-time Research and Development (R&D) Measurement Manager to join our team in Katy, TX, located 30 minutes west of Houston, TX.

As our R&D Manager, you will oversee the assigned projects' new product/process development including initiating, evaluating, planning, directing, executing, implementing, and reporting on activities related to innovation, progress, improvements, and cost saving ideas of our downhole measurement projects. 

This position is crucial in the overall leadership of the R&D team members, including coaching, mentoring, recruiting, training, as well as providing performance reviews.

Your essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring completion of the department’s high priority projects and critical non-project work
  • Acting as a technical consultant to all operating units of the company on formulation/processing issues related to assigned projects/products
  • Completing technical assessments for evaluation of new projects/process opportunities
  • Evaluating applicability of technologies within the organization
  • Making safety and quality a top priority throughout all work functions
  • Conducting all business activities and interactions in agreement with CNPC USA core values
  • Advocating of CNPC USA Coordination and Communication protocol and Project Management process
  • Collaborating with executive management to achieve project, technical, operational, and company goals
  • Staying current with industry technology related to function/department
  • Supporting the technology road map and making project proposals
  • Communicating with customers to understand their immediate needs
  • Developing, monitoring, and executing annual departmental technical project, budget, resource, tactical plans deliverables/milestones with Technical Leads
  • Collaborating with all cross-functional groups and Beijing colleagues to ensure project progress is achieved
  • Protecting CNPC's intellectual property, trade secrets, and confidential information of the company

About You 

To qualify, you must have at least 10 years of combined experience in R&D, progressive leadership, or relevant technical background specifically in oil and gas downhole measurement

We also require a Master's Degree in any of the following: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Geological Engineering, Computer Science, other Engineering Sciences, or related field.

To succeed in this role, it's essential to have skills or experience in the following:

  • Downhole measurement systems, electronics, tools, product development, and processes (e.g., LWD and MWD)
  • HTHP sensors
  • Data processing/analytics
  • High-level progressive leadership experience (e.g., recruiting, training, mentoring, coaching, etc.)
  • Project management
  • HSE best practices
  • Presentation skills
  • Background or familiarity with Altium Designer or equivalent (asset)
